Once upon a time, Shelby, Caleb and I were driving to a wedding reception on a Thursday night. As we approached our destination, we noticed a colorful display up ahead. It seemed to be a little carnival of some sort. And this carnival had a Ferris wheel. A rickety, rusty, old Ferris wheel. But for some reason, it caught our attention. And we all looked at each other and said, "Yep, we're going on that."
So after giving our congratulations to the bride and groom and hitting up the dessert table, we headed back to the Food City parking lot. The dark and quiet Food City parking lot. We each bought a ticket, from a rather sketchy looking fellow might I add, and enter the absolutely deserted carnival. There she stood in all her glory.
Since we had an odd number, we asked the worker (who did NOT look happy to be there) if we could fit three in a car. "Uhhh oh no. Not a chance. You're gonna have to do 2 in one and 1 in the other, you know, to counter balance it." Oh yeah. I guess that makes sense. So me and Shelby get situated, and the creepy man gestures to Caleb, "Alright buddy, you sit in the middle, and no messing around!" First, who does he think we are. Children? And second, didn't he just say it was gonna break if we did three? Or something like that. Regardless of his warning, he straps us in and off we go.
And for a full 2 minutes we thought we were going to die.
No that is not joy on our face. It is terror.
As we inched toward the top our car started rocking and creaking and I swear we were going to fall out backwards to our death. That deserted carnival was no longer silent. We filled it with our high pitched screams. Yeah, all the workers were staring at us. We didn't care.
After much screaming and laughing it finally stopped. And we walked off victorious. Mind you as we walked by the little kid spinny ride another creepy man says, "Maybe this one's more your speed." Yeah, thanks.
